About the score

The score, from 0 to 100, says how promising an area looks for someone buying a home there, compared with the rest of France. It is a weighted sum of the subscores below, each on the same 0 to 100 scale, and higher is always better.

Price trend 31% of the score

Where the area is heading: the change in price per m², in building permits, in businesses opening and closing, and how many people have moved in recently.

Local economy 19% of the score

How well off the area is: managers' share of jobs, poverty, income and its trend, and businesses per resident.

Ease of resale 13% of the score

How easily a home here sells on: sales per home, and whether they are rising.

Shops & services 13% of the score

Shops, health care, transport, sport and culture in the area, per resident.

Schools 3% of the score

Primary, middle and high schools and higher education in the area, per resident.

Safety 9% of the score

Whether burglary, violence, vehicle theft, damage and street theft are falling or rising. The trend only, never the level.

Housing stock 6% of the score

Empty homes and whether their share is falling, and how many homes are owner-occupied.

Hazard safety 6% of the score

How little natural hazard the area faces: past disaster declarations and the kinds of hazard identified. Higher means safer.
